How can I install Java?

The latest version of Java is available free of charge. Click the button below to visit the Sun site and press the 'Free Java Download' button once there.

What should my Java settings be?

Internet Explorer 7

Select Tools > Internet Options from the browser menu, then:

1. Click on the Programs tab and then the 'Manage add-ons button'. Ensure that all items from the publisher 'Sun Microsystems, Inc' have been enabled.

2. Click on the Security tab and press the Custom Level button. Scroll down to the Scripting section. Select the buttons for Enable under 'Active Scripting' and under 'Scripting of Java Applets'.

Then click OK, and close and re-open your browser to activate the changes.

Internet Explorer 6

Select Tools > Internet Options from the browser menu, then click on the Advanced tab and scroll down until you see the following sections.

Java (Sun)
If you see this heading, then please ensure the box below it is ticked.

Microsoft VM
If you see this heading, please tick the boxes next to: 'Java console enabled', 'Java logging enabled' and 'JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled'. If, however, you have the Microsoft VM as well as the Java (Sun) option, then please enable the Java (Sun) options above but disable the Microsoft VM options.

Netscape, Mozilla

Select Options from the Tools menu, then click on Site Controls. Tick the boxes next to 'Enable Java' and (if it appears) 'Enable Javascript'.

Firefox

Select Options from the Tools menu and press the Content button. Tick the boxes next to 'Enable Java' and 'Enable Javascript'.

Safari

Select Preferences from the Safari menu, and press the Security button. Then tick the boxes next to 'Enable Java' and 'Enable Javascript'.
